Strip club and Taifun!

In Tokyo alls means of transportation except cabs stop working shortly after 0:00. So no, in spite of the title we did not visit a strip club. Ha! You and your dirty minds! However we got a few offers: "Hey, hey, interested in a strip club? Free admission! Hot girls! Just follow me." Tempting as it was, we had to decline because of the time. Instead we went to Don Quichote, a duty free shop with great items (some of which will decorate my splendiferous body soon) and ate at Friday's, where there is not only everyday a friday but also dishes like "Ridiculous BBQ chicken Taco - OVERSTUFFED". A perfect description of how i felt after the meal. At a bookstore i found an english-japanese dictionary, and beside that one Robert and I found a book called "Dirty Japanese". Expecting the usual "asshole" and "fuck off" translations being the most dirty thing to find here, we took a look ... ('\(O_o)/') holy jesus christ!!! : "Please come in my a**!", "Let's try out the double Dildo!", "I want to f**k you so hard!"; chapter titled conversations: "I want you to suck my c*ck!" - "Ok, is this good?" - "Yes, I'm coming!!" - "Come in my face!" - "Oh yeah, I'm going to come so all over you!" - "Ah, it's so warm and yummi!" .....
I bow to you in respect japanese people, if you say dirty you indeed mean dirty.

SLEEP.

I woke up at about ten, got dressed an we checked out (the thing with the overbooking and tatami room, remember?). Our first stop was Shinjuku. Of course the world's most famous dog Hachiko wanted a picture with me, I granted him that wish and it was on to the shopping districts. I think I actually bought nothing...but the shops where interesting anyways, a manga store as big as the university of innsbruck (i think that's not even that much of an exaggeration) with original drawings from artists, well-priced (about 140.000 Yen) and lots and lots of great figurines. It must actually be quite a difficult task for a figurine designer to arrange the posture of the female figurines in a way that they keep their balance in spite of having monstrous .. cantaloupes.
Spagetthi with fries, then Shibuya. Here again through the shopping districts, but nothing good to be found. Back to the hostel, check-in, getting another room as we were told we would get (no harm done though, normal beds!) and back again to Roppongi. You thought we'd miss out on a strip club? Then your right, we just had to discuss the price-value-ratio of some items and then went back to buy em anyway.

HOSTEL, SLEEP.

We got up and of course went to Roppongi (Weather: raining hard because of a Taifun (ah, so that's why ....), we got wet in spite of umbrellas and no going out today). This time because in the area is azabujuban shopping street, where i finally might find a certain souvenir that kept avoiding me. Update: 見つけた! Found it!

Now there will be a food festivity (rice) and then we'll probably play go or cards or with Kana.

Ah rather sexually charged post today ... ! !! !!! That problem will be taken care of in austria.
Nighty night!

Goodbye, swine flu!

After another nice day at onjuku beach (it involved drinking, getting sunburnt and a fantastic old man aka the player) and a nice little sayonaraparty at the kyouryukeikan (probably written wrong) with pablo, mickey, nick, ishi, connie .... we are now back in tokyo. Luca and Kai left early in the morning, being nice enough to wake us up to say goodbye. We took the limited express to tokyo (after talking to a keio graduate). At tokyo station roald parted with us. So now only two left.

After a short visit to akihabara electric town were back again at Anne hostel. Although we booked another room we again got a tatami room. How? The hostel is overbooked and we were the lucky ones! Y..a..y... -_-

Now we're getting ready to go to roppongi.

Ok that post is shit, but I'm tired, so leave me alone!

Denja no samurai!

Konbanwa!
Training in Kamagawa was nice, the people are very hospitable; so after we changed they immidiately began with jigeiko. After about one hour of jigeiko, we did some wazas and stopped..why? Because the sensei misunderstood rodrigou and thought that we had to catch a train at 8:50 (it actually was 9:10) and stopped training at 8:25. Because we did not want to be impolite we created an impression of stress by keeping our hakama and gi on. Walking through town like this was pretty funny, and it still was while riding the train. In the train however we changed.

After arriving we started to fill the bath with hot (!!!!!!!!) water. We showered and let our hurt bodies soothe in the mollifying hot liquid i.e. we drank beer in the tub, entered the garden through the window, naked of course, and presented our steaming bodies to the irritated and amused visitors of the common room. One of us, the mysterious Z, also peed.
Lack of sleep forced me to close my eyes afterwards.

In the morning 9 am, punctual as always, the beloved IBU hymn woke us up (note: get the hymn as a ringtone). After breakfast and unmotivated hanging around we took off for the beach at Onjuku. - I forgot, we were told that there will be no training because of the swine flu for the rest of the week... good thing we went to training once in order to catch it before training is put to a total stop. - In Onjuku we did ... well what you normally do on a beach: enter the sea with ashi sabaki und practice underwater fumikomi. Show off your volleyball skills and last but not least lie on the ground. After buying some souvenirs we went back, had a domodomoburger and arrived once more at the IBU.

Aahh, I am so looking forward to the hymn tomorrow 9 am ...

I B U ... not UBI

Hola!
Where did I leave off ...? Ah yeah, so the hostel was quite ok, on sunday we left for Katsuura. It took us five hours to get there by train, as we arrived and looked around we had seen everything there is in Katsuura; yes, it is very small. We took a cab to the I(nternational) B(udo) U(niversity) facilities (710 Yen) and got the keys to - of course - a tatami room. But since the rent is only 6000 Yen for a week I'm quite satisfied. We then were told that there will probably be no training because two students have the swine flu. But the Senseis did not care. There was training. And it was amazing: the Keio students still in mind we bowed and entered, joining the warm-up...it was embarassing how loud we where, with Keio ichi ni's we started, with IBU san shi's we ended. Comparing the two is like comparing an elephant and a mouse hitting the ground after they've been dropped at 1000 meters height. After the suburi are done you can hear a common "plock, pack" as they just let their shinais sink to the ground, not caring anymore. Then some kirikaeshi and practices, jigeiko and over. In the afternoon there was of course a match, we had to watch again ... ouch my back! Ijimasensei, Marubashisensei, Makitasensei, they all greeted us very friendly (well mostly Luca) and told us that tomorrow there'll be no practice ... -_- but since the Dojo was open we of course trained with a korean guy and two guys from chile. They were actually really nice and invited us to a party tuesday evening. We went to th beach, found some crabs and dead fish, little yellow things that could sting, and just relaxed. Then we went to the party. It was .... nice and crazy ... yeah .... xD
Today we went training again, it started out good but I didn't get to do jigeiko with anyone....that sucked. But Makitasensei invited us to dinner afterwards, which was cool. Now, after one hour of pingpong we're waiting to go train in Kamagawa. :)
Again no pictures....hopefully next week!

Off!

Finally, after two weeks of stress I have two days off before training continues at the IBU. I slept 'till 1 pm and went to asakusa eki afterwards, searching for random stuff. As always I was half-successful, which means I found things I originally did not search for but did not find the other stuff I wanted. Yare yare...
So just a short update on friday: We went to the Keio Dojo again to watch them fight another uni, they lost again ... guess the gassyuku will take some time to sink in, or course the obligatory hiyoshi ramen and finally we moved to the other hostel (which is located 50 meters away from our original destination). Then we headed out to shimbachi to end the official chapter of our journey with the sayonara party. Because of my offended stomach I couldn't enjoy the various interesting dishes, except for the sashimi and the soba. Also I had to cut back on alcohol, but as it was free drinking for two hours I drank about 7 orenji chuusus. On to karaoke! Which turned out to be a rather exhausting experience for my vocal cords: The guys always wanted to do some really fast rap songs, with me as their backup, however they stopped singing after two or three passages and I had to finish the job (gasolina is frekaing hard, real slim shady too!!), random fact: the thing always tells you how many calories you've burned after singing a song, my songs had an average of about 12 kcal, the other ones of about 4 kcal. Random fact: three hours of karaoke: 44.000 Yen ... xD
Here the ways parted. Valentin, Klaus and Marianne headed back to their hostel because they are flying home today, Kamemoto Sensei left too, Luca, Olli and Kai went on to Roppongi (with Kana) and Roald, Robert and me went sleeping. A normal bed!! *cheer*
Did the loop, now I am sitting here and were going to get some ramen (again).
*wave*

PS: Computer has no USB slots, can't give you pictures!

Short Story .. again!

Aay!
Finally some time to write (15 min). The past two days were (like everything before) rather full of stress plus I must've eaten something bad because my stomach was really upset. As a result...yeah you can probably imagine.
We went to Soujikan Dojo which was really interesting. There were a lot of kids training there, the youngest one being six years old. Man those kids got spirit. We (the austrians) were put on the motodachi side and the children could do jigeiko with us. Imagine Luca (1,93 m) fighting against a child of not even half his size, what was the first thing the kiddo did? It went straight for the men (headprotector)....they showed absolutely no respect for our size and fought and fought and fought...amazing! The rest of the training I had to pass...freaking stomach...but I got something rather interesting to train with, a balance board and some kind of modified bokken. The people there were really nice, we got tenuguis and bentos in the end!
Today we watched a match between Keio and an Osaka university. Freaking intense! Keio lost unfortunately, but it was close (and my buddy beat the shit out of their taisho).
After some Hiyoshi ramen (mmmh) it was back to the hostel. And now I will shower. Expect a more ineresting and more thought out post as soon as I got my two free days (saturday and sunday).
Mata ne!

First pictures! More soon!

On the beach (original mix)

A good morning ... it wasn't. My body, still being used to the time schedule of the gassyuku woke up at 6:30. My mind followed about two hours later. I then realized that we were on our way to Kamakura.
In Kamakura we visited the two biggest temple areas, Engaku-ji and Kencho-ji. It was really amazing, I love these Shrine and Temple buildings; and the surrounding nature, the statues ...... For lunch we ate real sushi. Expensive, but worth it - there's a big difference in quality.
Then we went on to see the big buddha statue. And big it was. We could even enter it. Inside it was packing heat and as I was looking up I saw that buddha had reached the final stage - mushin. His head was totally empty.
After buying some souvenirs we went back to our hostel. Short story! (No time!!)

I promise that there'll be photos as soon as I figure out how to transfer them (everything is in Japanese). Or as soon as Olli stops looking at the facebook page or that japanese girl and lends me his laptop.

Ja mata!

PS: Today we were on the beach! And we entered the sea! Like pirates!

On the beach (remix)

Konbanwa!
We're back in Tokyo, it seems that you won't be getting rid of me for a little bit longer (IBU gassyuku)!! The Gassyuku with the Keio University was great: During this week our whole life consisted of getting up at 5:30, 6 asageiko (morning training), 7 breakfast, after breakfast a short break where everyone fell into his bed, trying to catch up some sleep, 9 - 12 keiko, 12:45 lunch, break again 14-17 keiko, 17:45 dinner, 19 meeting (japanese), 20:30 a meeting where the meeting before was explained to us, 23 bed. Six days. And the times for keiko were of course fluctuating, depending on what the senseis thought fit (I think the record is one hour plus). The food was delicious, various beautifully arranged dishes, containing everything a maltreated body needs; the downside was that as soon as we heard "Itadakimasu" we had about 10 minutes to inhale it ... gochisousama deshita. But as it is with the mysterious ways of life, painful and exhausting things make you learn a great deal; I bathed in the mystical liquids of kendo (sweat) and soaked everything up like a stinky blue sponge.
Especially because we had rather impressive senseis and senpais: Kato Sensei, trainer of the japanese national team, Sato Sensei, shihan (~rolemodel) of the tokyo area police force, Yoshida Sensei, Mitsui Sensei, Fukumoto Sensei and as for the senpais just one example: a former taisho of the keio university who in his time as taisho has never lost a single match. ... ... ... !!!
Insertion - Great success: during the whole gassyuku I never felt sore! Training pays off! Hurt my foot though. Ittai!
Yesterday was the farewell party...probably the strangest thing I've seen 'till now: a girl comes to our room and explains: "At the party, there is beer on the table, but don't drink it until the Senseis have spoken. Then someone will open the beer and pour you a glass, then we all scream Kanpai and then you can drink. This is the first official part, from 7 to 9. Later there will be more for people who want to drink more. Please dress for a formal occasion and wear socks." So I expected it to be something rather formal. The Senseis spoke - check. Got a glass of beer - check. Kanpai - check. Then it got crazy. Screaming "yaay yaay yayyay, yaay yaay yayyay" they started chugging down the beer, leaving the food untouched. Unfortunately it was not really possible to escape this excess. With a "zicke zacke zicke zacke HOI HOI HOI zicke zacke zicke zacke HOI HOI HOI!" the austrian team joined the battle. Being rather formal and distant during the week, the catalyzing mix of exhausting training, an empty stomach and strong beer made the students transform. It took about twelve minutes and they all sat around us, wanting to drink with us. It was hilarious. Using a system I did not understand they started screaming, encouraging (forcing) random people to drink. This went on for about 45 minutes. So all in all it took about one hour and they were totally wasted (..yes..I was rather wasted too..). Then I gave my buddy (who always did the exercises with me, a guy who is famous for his great kendo since highschool) an AKA T-shirt. With "I am really happy" he started thanking me, the thanking ending in excessive hugging - then dragging me to other people who hugged me too. I definitely got my share of caresses that evening. Great fun. I also got a Keio T-shirt!
After a breakfast where i ate rather less, another five hours of bus driving (the japanese do some sort of comedy during bus driving, handing around a mic and saying obviously funny things), the obligatory and well known we-all-scream-really-loud-when-there-is-a-speedbump we were back in Hiyoshi. And now we're back in the hostel, ofc in the tatami room...

Wow, what a post. Sumimasen!

PS: The place where we were was a ryokan, the owner said we were the first non-japanese people to be there, there was nothing but the volcano, puffing smoke the whole day and fields. The bottom of the world.

That's all folks!

Ahhh....finally

A new post! Subarashiiii!

I'm sorry, but this is the first time in two days that i have time to write in my blog. Ok actually I'm not sorry....
We've been to the best bogu shop in Japan, where we met the captain of the american national team, chris yang (i took a picture), where i bought a new pair of kote for 25000 yen instead of 43000. It still is a lot of money. But it was worth it - the kote are great and they've got my name on them (がいがー)! We also had keiko at the keio university, it was pretty intense, but a lot of fun, A LOT! ... I hurt. A LOT!
Today we ate sumo food! It was A LOT (ok I will stop now). And then we did some カラオケ。 It was really fun! Since the drinks are free I am pretty drunk right now, that'll probably explain my post.
So now I'll leave you alone with these again rather short impressions of Japan. I don't know when I'll write again because on monday the gassukyu will start. So see you in a week (if I live)!

Nippon!

Finally!

It took me about 20 minutes to remember my username and password, so now i have exactly 4 minutes left to write my entry. Excellent.

Yesterday we arrived, found the hostel without problems, although a drunken old men tried to lure us away with his singing, ate and fell into bed, dreaming about the policeman who stood in his boot with a large wooden stick at hand, his eyes resting upon us as we passed. At least that`s what i dreamt in the little time i had. I was awake again at 4:30 (did not sleep the whole flight...or anything after...)! Yay! However that will not stop me from visiting Akihabara today, to do stuff.
So now not only my time ran out, also I will have to wake Robert.

Preparations!

Yokoso! :D
Up front some general information: Originally I wanted to spend my summer in south america, but as Kamemoto-Sensei asked me if I wanted to go to Japan to train Kendo I could not say no (quite literally). It'll involve two weeks of heavy training = 8 hours or more a day and two weeks of not so heavy training, although i do not know what that'll mean (probably 7h 45m). Locations will be Tokyo, Tsumagoi and Chiba, probably Kyoto too if we can make it. It will be legen - wait for it - dairy!!!

Flights are booked, cab to the airport too, will have to change money and right now I'm making a list of things I'll need. I am quite sure that something is not on the list, something I will desperately need as soon as I'm gone - as soon as this particular need arises I will let you know what it is that I forgot!

.........

*fades off in a state of deep relaxation and mental awareness to find the missing-thing-link* (=watching TV)
